This third row home is now a beachfront home. Everything between it and the beach is now gone. So the view is now unobstructed. This is a really nice place to stay. I've spent many a night here and it was great before Ike and now it will be even better.

So, how is the rest of Crystal Beach doing? Is the grocery store and other businesses back on their feet? We're coming down and can't wait to be there again.

I was down there on May 16th. The grocery store appeared to be up and going as well as a few other businesses. And they are cleaning up and building like crazy. Go for it!

Glad to see folks are getting things back going on our beloved beach. I lived in Orange Texas for 43 years and spent every summer at Crystal. I'm in the D-FW area now. I'm wanting to come get the specks as soon as possible and love hearing things are going in the right direction. Thanks to all.

I am surprised by the above comment from Armstrong. Did they not hear about Ike? Do they really believe that after a mere 9 months there would have been NO signs of the devastation brought by this storm?
I spent 2.5 weeks at Anchors Away in June. We reserved this house in January, before the repairs were even finished. Armstrong should have seen the peninsula then! The progress and restoration is awe-inspiring.
The view Armstrong whines about has been on full display in this web site for months. Did they not look at the photo? The view is a bit sad, but beautiful. The houses that were in front of this cabin are totally gone. But the stretch of sand, the softly rolling waves, and the endless horizon are the same.
And as far as being safe for children and pets - we had pets with us, and over the time we spent at Anchors Away, we had 12 children there ranging from infant to 15 years old. No pet, nor child were in any danger. But then, we always keep a close eye on them.
Those of us, and there are many, many of us, who love the Bolivar Peninsula and the folks who live there, are thankful that beautiful homes like Anchors Away are available as vacation rentals.
Yes, there is some broken glass, but that, and minor debris are nothing. And as far as that house that is falling down - perhaps someone should enlighten Armstrong to the problems with insurance companies that many owners are having.
A vacation is what you make of it.
How nice that even Armstrong was able to see what a fine vacation home this is, and kept the complaints to minor things that others who want to enjoy their time on the beach will happily overlook.

My family and I stayed at Anchor's Away the week of 11-09---11--15--09. We had beautiful weather and the view from the porch is fabulous. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. As far as the house itself---it is very accomodating---clean and roomy. The master bedroom is wonderful. the pictures on this site do not show all of the house. We have some wonderful memories of our stay here---I would recommend it to everyone---anyone with pets and small children---there is a gate at entrance of porch. The lg. gro store is open in Crystal beach and rollover pass is open to traffic. We intend to come back next year.

How far do you have to walk to the beach? Small children and older adults will be there.

I drove down in Jan. to look at the cabin, The rode was so messed up, I could not turn around on it. I thought I was going to be stuck in the yard. I'm coming the last week end in March, have they fixed the road surface yet?
