The Best Time to Book Your Vacation

Some like to plan vacations well in advance to secure “the best deal” while others tend to procrastinate and wait until the last minute. Regardless of what type of planner you are, we are breaking down the best times to book your next family vacation. There’s no magic formula for saving but there are certain strategies to consider. Read on to learn more!

  • Airfare–Did you know there’s an actual day dedicated to cheap airfare? National Cheap Flight Day is August 23rd. Late August tends to mark the end of peak travel season in which cheaper flights are available for booking. If the end of August doesn’t work well for your planning, booking flights three to four months in advance can help you secure the best price. Procrastinators beware, booking last minute may cost you hundreds more if you wait as late as the day before to book airfare travel.

  • Vacation Rentals Rates – Rental prices tend to be a little more complex as it depends on the type of vacation you’re booking. If you’re looking for a beach vacation, prices tend to drop at the end of the season, around September. So, if you’re looking for a deal, that would be the time secure your rental and it’s most ideal if you’re looking to secure an event space for a family reunion or wedding. However, if you and your family decide to go on a ski vacation, those prices tend to be best in the middle of October. The busiest time to book rentals is right after the holidays so if you have your eye on a specific rental, inventory might be sparse. You may risk losing out on one of your favorites due to high demand.

  • Car Rental Rates – Car rental pricing tends to ebb and flow with how much demand is out there during a certain time period. Car rental businesses are a bit sneaky as their systems are optimized. That means that customers book the last car on the lot at the highest price. When inventory is plentiful, prices tend to be much lower. However, there are some seasonal trends to keep in mind. Experts say to avoid booking around March and April time periods due to spring break. Otherwise, keep an eye on the prices and try to avoid last minute booking.
